Thoughts for Cyclists Facing the Real World Challenges of Life.
Things are rarely static...as with most people who have jobs, spouses, kids, most of us face the constant, ever changing challenges of life...yes, life is dynamic...Add to that an obsession with cycling, and you "take it up notch".
We open the pages of the cycling magazines, only to read about the training plans, equipment, and life of Pro's...but, we're not Pro's....we don't get paid to ride our bike...we have to pay for our equipment...most of us can't ride 30hrs a week...we ride our bikes because we love it and want to be the best we can be, with the limited time and resources we have. While still trying to be the best husband, father, and provider possible.
What I hope to share with you, is what I am learning on my evolution as a cyclist, as a bike racer, as a husband, as a father, and as a Christian. These are things I have learned over the last 15 years of riding and racing my bike, being married for seven years, and raising kids for the last three.
I'm just really starting the good part of my journey, so, don't look for some profound wisdom from your grandfather. I think what you'll find is more what I am learning about the transition I'm going through as a young adult with a growing family. Things just aren't the same as when I was single, or even when it was just the wife and I. The balance is shifting. No one waives a magic wand over you when your first child is born, and all of a sudden your a real adult...all of a sudden you don't want to ride your bike as much...all of a sudden you don't want to jump in the car every weekend, drive 4 hours to race your bike all weekend...no, these urges don't stop...and, that's were the evolution comes in...there has to be a balance, but your table just grew some new legs. And, ultimately, what's most important is changed forever.
I'll share my thoughts on nutrition, training, bike stuff, and balancing the challenges we face...maybe some politics too. I have an opinion on everything. I hope you enjoy.
